Taking One for The Team

Because of financial issues, Formula 3 American Series Driver James Dangelo's pit crew has two temporary members.

Driving Coach Zamir Barekzay and Race Engineer Hrvoje Andrić are acting as Tyre Carriers. The two were surprised when the offer was made, but it's nothing new to either of them. "In Afghanistan and Croatia, where we are from, auto racing is not a big sport. We have to do many jobs," said Zamir.

The new crew members will make their debut at the June 22 race in Sonoma, California. They got a taste of what they'll be experiencing on track during today's qualifying, where Mr Dangelo qualified 9th.

Team Manager James D'Angelo explained that the team overextended their training budget, leading to two mechanics leaving. Once sponsorships are renewed, new crewmembers will be brought on board.
