Pegaso reveal Bonmatí, Raveel as their lineup for season 62
Pegaso, Spain's Formula One team, has announced their compatriot Jan Bonmatí and Belgian Remco Raveel as their drivers for season 62 of My Racing Career.
After a season of steady improvement, Pegaso finished the latest championship in sixth place with 186 points, with the two podium finishes by outgoing driver Jaxton Blake in the Canadian and Dutch Grand Prix standing out among all the results. That is why the question for the team manager at the end of the last race in Abu Dhabi was precisely who would replace the American next season. And now we have the answer.
TEAM AND DRIVER STATEMENTS
"This has probably been the most difficult decision we have ever had to make when choosing drivers, because for the first time our options, Jan Bonmatí and John Cannon, were also the target of the best team on the grid and at the same time they preferred to race for us, so we must have done something right. Looking for the best for everyone, and sitting down with the managers of both drivers, we decided that Jan would sit in the 262 next season and from there on we'll see." - were nicorz's words on the matter.
"Many seasons have passed since I first got into an F4 car. Back then, I saw F1 as something out of reach, from another galaxy. As the seasons went by, what was once little more than impossible, gradually became a dream. A few seasons later, it began to look like a possibility. And at the end of last season, when Nico put the option of driving for Pegaso in S62 on the table, it was incredible.
I am very aware that representing the Spanish community is a great challenge and responsibility. That is why I will give it my all to live up to expectations. Before I finish, I would like to thank the most experienced members of our community for their advice, and especially Nico for all the help he has given me to get this far and for the trust he has placed in me. I hope we can enjoy both on and off the track." - said Bonmatí in an online press conference where the new design for the Pegaso 262 and 263 cars was unveiled, after the voting period finished a few days earlier for fans and shareholders.
Initially, Jan Bonmatí has signed a contract that will tie him to the flying horse for two seasons (62-63). Remco Raveel will continue his relationship indefinitely, as stated in the agreement he signed in season 61.
ABOUT THE DRIVERS
Jan Bonmatí joins Marc Vilanova, Marc Montané, Ángel Holguera, Pablo León, Elisabet Alemany, Álvaro Cobos, and Alberto Puig as the eighth Spanish driver in Pegaso's recent history. Although he has never won a season series, thanks to his consistency, Jan has achieved great results in series such as Hypercars (one time runner-up and two third places), V8 Supercars (runner-up) and NASC Gold. He is also the most recent champion of the Pegaso SuperSeries and has been victorious in both editions of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship in season 61.
On the other hand, Remco Raveel made his debut as a rally driver in season 47, where he won the WRS Junior before moving to NASC Silver in season 51. His career has primarily developed in stock cars, winning the NASC Gold series in season 58, although the following season he was runner-up in IndyCar, where he won the Indianapolis 500 on his first attempt. The Belgian driver made his Formula 1 debut with Pegaso this season, finishing eleventh with 87 points.
