James Thompson gets his first podium.

Having reached his third season in racing, James Thompson has finally gotten his first taste of champagne as he finishes in the third spot in the first race of the Spanish Series...

The Dutch-English racer had qualified in 7th position and in the 22 lap sprint race he pushed his car to the limit getting to the second spot, before losing his car late and salvaging the last spot on the podium.

"I was so close at getting the second spot, but I lost focus when it mattered. But I'm still very elated at getting my first podium finish."

The 19 year old driver has to take comfort in the fact that he was beaten by only the top 2 qualifiers of the race, having stormed through the rest of the field to grab 3rd. His friend ''Chris Dewing'' getting his first win of his racing career.

"It's great to see Dewing get his first win. Sure, I would've loved to have that spot but I'm confident that I will get another chance this season..."

With this being the very first series race of the season, he will have plenty of chances to get his first win. But with an always competitive pack of drivers vying for top honours, it will take all of Thompson's ability to put himself over the rest.

"I want to win, everyone wants to win races. I feel I'm getting better every single day, and this podium is the start of something great. Dewing might have had my number today, he won't have it next time around."

With the next race being the 41 lap version of Barcelona, it will be certain that Thompson will try to improve his car even more to get that coveted #1 spot.
