Howie Dewitt Announces Retirement
KRS management is feeling bitter sweeet today, with the retirement of our most successful driver so far. Howard Dewitt drove for 22 seasons before deciding to step aside for the next generation just before his 40th birthday.
He won 4 season series the highest being Indy, also taking home the Indy 500 twice while he was at it. As of today he still holds 33 track records across many series. The biggest probably being his F1 Qualy record at Losail while driving for Alpine that somehow also still stands. He also had Canada’s record for highest rating till Cannon recently re-broke that one.
His time in F1 wasn’t his most successful, (he never did like making adjustments from in the car). As he always says he’s a pure driver not an engineer ;).
But he had great fun with a few teams. His best and most time was with Pegaso where his knack for finding fast setups and their knowledge, dedication and data combined to help them and us at KRS make another step forward. He will always remember those times with joy and hopes his experiences will benefit others, including KRS teammate John Cannon. He also drove in more F1 races than any Canuck ever in MRC.
The one he’s proud of most is probably what he did for his country Canada in Nations Cup. Where he racked up 43 wins 126 podiums and 9454 points. Second all time for us only behind the great Greg Moore.
Ladies and Gentlemen that was Howie Dewitt, or How-we Do-it :)
