Stark Contrast: NAF2 - Toronto

As wonderfully described by Semprini, Round 1 of North American F2 seemed to set the scene for the coming season. The fast, flowing corners of Mexico City gave way to the streets of Toronto for Round 2. And aside from front runners Kolbasz and Rapido, the field looked decidedly different after qualifying. With new names in the Top 10.

The British duo of Striver and Maines - who took 4th and 5th in Mexico - were now 5th and 10th respectively despite only being split by little more than a tenth. Things didn't improve so much either, despite Striver proving to be formidably quick around street circuits the pair propped up the points in 7th and 8th.

"We had no pace, thats all it came down to, I lost place after place in the sprint with no mistakes and dropped from 5th while Biggs climbed from 10th. We met in the middle and brought the cars home in procession. We just couldn't challenge". said Striver.

"I even tried a light strategy for Race 2. A late safety car would definitely have put me up in the top four or five but it never came... Thats the gamble I feel we had to take."

Round 3 commences tonight in F1 land, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve; Montreal. A fast, low aero track very different from both Mexico City and Toronto. This could prove a closer comparison between the drivers on an all-round circuit.

The North American F2 season kicked off in Mexico City this past week and if the results of the opening round are any indication, the sharp end of the grid will be the most competitive and talkative ever. Hungarian Boaz Kolbasz took double-victory f...
