On the very same day as main sponsor Carlsborg announced it was ending its relationship with Team Europe, Zemeckas scored the team's first points with a spirited drive from 16th to 9th. Assistant manager Don Bennett had this to say.

"Team Europe have had a rollercoaster day, the Carlsborg announcement to the press was released before they informed us, it's a shocking way to conduct business, I really don't understand, we have had a great relationship with them for many seasons, but that's over now.

Then of course we've got some points on the board now, and I'd like to thank Zemeckas for pulling off an inspired drive today, Di Rado had some bad luck today it otherwise I'm sure we'd have had our first double points finish.

I'd also like to say that we are done with Carlsborg, even if they want to come back now, we won't have them, tomorrow I'm gonna make some calls and I'm sure I'll have a new sponsor lined up in the next few weeks."
