New Sponsor System is Here

A significant overhaul of My Racing Career's sponsorship system is imminent, as hinted at in my earlier blog post, and it is currently undergoing live testing. This article will take you behind the scenes of the new system, explaining how it works, what changes you can expect, and when it will officially launch in the game.

Whether you're an experienced driver overseeing elite contracts or a rookie trying to land your first sponsor, this update introduces new dynamics that will affect your approach and professional development. Let's examine the specifics and see how sponsorships are changing to become a more rewarding and realistic aspect of your racing career.

List of Sponsors

Thanks to the great work of our graphics developer jeansapiaMy Racing Career now features a significantly expanded database of sponsors spanning a wide range of industries. These are, of course, fictional sponsors, designed to avoid any legal conflicts with real-world brands. However, with the new GUI and a Superlicense, players now have the flexibility to customize sponsor names and logos, creating a more immersive and realistic experience.

This customization works similarly to the existing options for renaming cars or modifying manufacturer logos. You can either upload your own sponsor names and graphics or tap into the community-built database for ready-made options. The feature is already live and accessible via the game settings screen, giving you full control over how sponsors appear in your racing world.

How To Work With Sponsors

When you navigate to the Finances section, you'll find a new screen displaying a list of all available sponsors, organized by your driver's reputation level. The higher your reputation, the more sponsors will be interested in working with your driver, unlocking a wider selection and potentially offering more lucrative contracts.

This system reflects how sponsors evaluate your performance and popularity, making reputation a key factor in your career progression and financial success.

Once you've opened the sponsor list, you can select a company that interests you and click the icon next to it to manage available actions. This is where the first strategic decision comes into play.

Naturally, a global brand like a real-world company such as Microsoft wouldn't be eager to sponsor a young, unknown driver. In contrast, smaller, local companies are much more likely to support newcomers. In My Racing Career, the difference between a well-known global sponsor and a modest local one is represented by a star rating also called Sponsor prestige. This rating reflects not only the company's market presence but also its budget for promotional activities, which influences the value of the contracts they offer. However, the financial gap between sponsors is not extreme, keeping the system balanced.

For this reason, a rookie driver with low reputation should avoid targeting high-profile sponsors, as building a relationship with them is often inefficient and unlikely to succeed. On the other hand, a top-rated driver would miss out on better earnings by signing with a low-tier sponsor.

A good manager will always choose sponsors wisely, aligning their selection with the driver's current rating to maximize the rewards.

Sponsor Interactions

When you open a sponsor's profile, you’ll have the option to begin building your driver’s reputation with that company.

To do this, you’ll need a driver employee with a PR Manager skill of at least 10. These employees can be assigned to handle sponsor interactions, and the number of sponsors you can engage with is limited by how many qualified PR managers you have up to a maximum of 10 sponsors at a time.

You can assign a specific employee to manage the interaction, or leave the field empty to let your entire PR team collaborate. While assigning a high-skilled individual can slightly improve results, the system is designed so that teamwork among your PR staff yields consistent outcomes. The better the overall PR skill, the more effective the interaction will be.

Building driver reputation with multiple sponsors from the same industry is technically possible, but not recommended. The results are often suboptimal, as companies in direct competition are unlikely to respond positively to shared loyalty. Think of it like a driver having a strong relationship with Coca-Cola, then trying to engage with Pepsi such a scenario would raise eyebrows in the real world, and the game reflects that dynamic. In My Racing Career, this kind of overlap can dilute your reputation gains and reduce the effectiveness of your PR efforts. To maximize results, it's best to focus on sponsors from different industries.

The outcome of each sponsor interaction and any resulting change in driver reputation is calculated daily, ensuring consistent progress and feedback as you manage your PR strategy.

Once a driver's reputation with a sponsor exceeds 70, the sponsor will send an initial contract offer. If no action is taken, the offer will automatically refresh every 3 days, giving you updated terms based on your driver's reputation and rating.

However, if the driver's reputation drops below 70, the offer becomes invalid and will disappear. This system encourages consistent performance and strategic PR management to maintain sponsor interest.

Contract Negotiations

Having a contract offer in place opens the door to negotiations, allowing you to fine-tune the terms to better suit your strategy. The available negotiation options include:

  • Request higher contract value – Increase the overall value of the contract.
  • Request higher signing bonus – Boost the signing bonus while reducing the weekly payment.
  • Request higher weekly payment – Increase the weekly payment at the cost of a lower signing bonus.
  • Request shorter contract – Reduce the contract duration.
  • Request longer contract – Extend the contract duration.
  • Request season-long contract – Set the contract to cover the entire upcoming season, starting from day one.

Negotiation comes at a cost. Negotiating sends a clear message to the sponsor: their offer isn’t good enough. As a result, your driver reputation with that sponsor will slightly decrease. This isn’t a major issue unless your demands are unrealistic.

Behind the scenes, the game uses a formula to calculate the maximum possible contract value. If the current offer is already close to that limit, pushing for more can lead to a significant reputation drop. The same applies when trying to negotiate outside the allowed boundaries:

  • Maximum signing bonus: Up to  the standard bonus.
  • Minimum signing bonus0
  • Contract length: Must be between 3 and 10 weeks, unless requesting a season-long contract
  • Maximum season long contracts: 1 (penalty applied if season contract for next season is already signed)

A smart manager will weigh the benefits of negotiation against the potential reputation loss, ensuring they get the best deal without damaging sponsor relationships.

Contract Extension

In the current system, if your driver already has three active sponsor contracts, you can terminate one to make room for a new deal. However, doing so requires repaying the full signing bonus received when the contract was originally signed. Only after this repayment can a new contract be signed.

The new system introduces more flexibility. You can still terminate contracts, but now there's also an option to extend an existing one. This option becomes available once more than half of the contract duration has passed. When extending a contract, you’ll only need to repay a prorated portion of the original signing bonus, based on the remaining time left in the current deal.

Importantly, signing an extension also comes with a new signing bonus. If this new bonus is greater than the amount that needs to be repaid, no payment is required. Instead, the new bonus is simply reduced to cover the difference.

Note: Technically, the prorated portion of the original signing bonus is deducted, and the new signing bonus is fully paid to the driver. This ensures financial consistency and allows contracts to be extended again in the future under same conditions.

More to Come

While promised performance clauses are not yet implemented, they are planned for future updates and will add a new layer of depth to sponsor contracts. Once a driver receives an offer for a season-long contract, they will be able to select a desired season series and request a performance clause. The sponsor will then choose one of the following goals:

  • Win the series championship
  • Finish in the top 3 of the standings
  • Finish in the top 5
  • Finish in the top 10
  • Win a race during the season
  • Score a podium finish during the season

The value of the performance clause will be calculated based on the driver’s rating and the ratings of other drivers already registered for the series. This determines the likelihood of achieving the goal, which in turn affects the bonus amount. For example, a top-10 finish might yield only a small bonus for a top-rated driver, while a championship win could result in a substantial reward for a mid-tier competitor.

Note: Performance clauses will be finalized after the season series is locked, to prevent manipulation or collusion between “friendly” drivers.

Not Interested in Sponsor Management? No Problem.

If you're not keen on diving into the sponsor management system, don't worry. It won’t significantly impact your gameplay.

One option is to simply ignore the system and continue receiving random sponsor offers, just like before. These offers are not noticeably weaker, but you won’t be able to choose which sponsors approach you. This method also acts as a safety net for young drivers who haven’t hired PR managers yet.

Alternatively, you can let your PR managers handle interactions automatically. While this approach won’t unlock season-long contracts, it will still result in reasonably strong offers, allowing you to benefit from the system without micromanaging it.

What is next?

Currently our testers are playing around and comparing contracts with the old system to make sure the economy of the game will not be changed. In next few weeks the functionality to build reputation with sponsors will be enabled for all managers. You will be able to see how the system works but you will not be able to sign contracts until the begining of next season (season 63).

Few notes:

  • Driver reputation gained during this season before you can sign contracts will stay for next season unless there will be a big bug found (that is not likely).
  • Season long contracts will be available from season 64.
  • Adult-only sponsor industries like Tobacco, Alcohol or Betting. will be available for everybody but must be enabled via settings screen and every manager will have to confirm that they understand hazards that this industry brings to life.
